January blahs even get to dogs
By cuzzy | January 21, 2009

All of the snow, cold weather and short days really start to settle in these days. Christmas seems like it was months ago and it feels like forever until spring. We all feel it when we are at work or just doing the daily errands out of the house. We have a lot of ways to try and get out of the blahs if we so choose but how do our dogs get out of the funk?
For a lot of dogs, it is too cold to spend a lot of time outside so that can lead to cabin fever. Not even the best chewy bone can entertain a dog for long in the house. Anyone seeing this bored face on their little guy or gal?
For us, we are lucky because Bosco actually loves winter more than summer. He loves snow and the cold does not bother him at all. We are the ones that don’t like going out for the daily walk, he is always ready to go.
Even icey days seem fun to Bosco as he likes to run and slide on the ice like a figure skater.
We try to keep him active and entertained in the house by playing with him and his toys and making sure he has new bones to chomp away on.
Simple stuff like playing fetch up and down the stairs seems to get him some exercise and looks like fun.
Granted Bosco is very happy to snooze the day away in his chair but it is good to have some fun and try to get past the cold days.
One thing that is missed is the weekly dips in the lake. Now that will have to wait for sure.
How do you try to entertain your dog during the blah days of winter?
Would love to here all about it.

Well, in our case, we can tell you that we become more connected as a family during winter since we spend more time in the living room. Recently we bought a bean bag for each of our four-legged kids, making this time even more enjoyable — they’re comfortable and the bags are really easy to keep clean. Great post, really makes you think what else to do!

It certainly makes you be creative and the reward is not having to go outside as much.

You can’t beat rolling around on the floor with the bone munchers.
