Study says dogs read human emotions on faces

    By cuzzy | January 12, 2009

Do you ever wonder if your dog actually know what you are saying or even thinking? Well I just read an article saying that dogs can read our emotions from our facial expressions.

The evidence for the claim that dogs can read a human’s emotion by looking at the face was published in the October 2008 edition of the U.K. scientific journal, New Scientist. The study was led by Dr. Kin Guo, of the University of Lincoln in the U.K.

This study looks into a dog’s ability to detect human emotions and suggests that dogs look to the face for signs of anger, happiness, or sadness - just like humans do.

What do you think? Can they read our faces? Personally Bosco knows when I am mad or sad and he acts accordingly. What about your dog?

I don’t know if they can read many facial expressions but they definitely pick up on moods and seem to act accordingly.

Well, apart from Faye who seems to think everyone wants to play with her at nearly all times that she is actually awake!

I believe it. My dogs can instantly sense what I’m feeling after seeing me. The best part is they usually know how to adjust and are always there with plenty of kisses!

Hey, here are some few facts I have learnt about dogs. First of all I must say I love dogs to the max and always love to read more about them. So here are some facts about them. According to recent genetic fossil and DNA evidence, dogs were first domesticated from wolves at least 17,000 years ago, but perhaps as early as 150,000 years ago.

In our time now, dogs have developed into hundreds of breeds with a huge level of variation. The oldest reliable age recorded for a dog is 29 years, 5 months for a Queensland ‘heeler’ called Bluey in Victoria, Australia. The average dog lives to around 15 years of age. Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog; it weighs only 4 pounds and is 5 inches high at the shoulders. The tallest breed is the Irish wolfhound. It is about thirty-nine inches tall at the shoulder. The St. Bernard is the heaviest dog. It can weigh about 200 pounds. The Yorkshire terrier has hair that can be two feet long while other breeds may have no hair at all such as the Mexican hairless.

Naturally, dogs have a wonderful sense of smell. They have many more sensory ’smelling’ cells than a man’s 5,000,000. Dogs DO have better low-light vision than humans because of a special light-reflecting layer behind their retinas. Hope you enjoyed these facts. I will be back to post more soon.
