    Summer reading for dog lovers

    By cuzzy | July 30, 2008

This post is long overdue but I think you will enjoy what I am going to share with you. Quite some time ago I was sent a few wonderful books to check out and review. Well they got passed around and finally I am getting to the post. Sorry to Eleanor for this.

The first book and newest on the market is called A Dog Among Diplomats. It is written by J.F. Englert who also wrote  a book we have listed on the blog before called A Dog About Town.

A Dog Among Diplomats is the second book in Englert’s Bull Moose Dog Run Mystery series.

They are about Randolph, a labrador-cum-detective who is the first-person narrator of this series.

From the feedback I got on these books they are well done and an easy read. They are perfect for kids and of course those older kids who love dogs.

Being a lab owner I have to say I love the idea and the book covers. It always gets me thinking how Bosco would do as a crime solver. I kind of think he would take a lot of naps and not figure out many clues.

Here is some of the praise for this book that was included in the email.

LibraryThing members on A DOG AMONG DIPLOMATS

This book reminded me of two things, both very disconnected: the old-time
movie serials where the heroine is always left in utmost peril until the next
    sequence and P.G. Wodehouse.

the writing is sharp and witty

I couldn’t help but fall in love with Randolph.

a marvelous study of character, especially the dog’s, and has some of the
funniest writing I’ve ever read in the genre.

Like Wodehouse, [Englert] often throws off phrases that you want to reread
just for the sheer pleasure of it.

So if your kids are looking for some entertaining reading or a story worth diving into please consider Dog Among Diplomats or the first in the series, A Dog About Town.

I know you enjoy these books as soon as you see the covers.

This looks like a great book, and I do love the cover! Another really cute dog book I picked up this week is Dog Park Diary: the Social Round of Goody Beagle. It’s a really funny book, and gives us humans a good look at what happens at the dog park from the dog’s point of view.

      Hey Bosco,
I have read both books now thanks to your blog referral and I do not think they are kids books. These are murder mysteries with college level vocabulary. They are very fun and humurous as they are written from the perspective of a dog, but I think kids would get hung up on the difficult vocab.
