The news has gone to the dogs
By cuzzy | April 9, 2008

Every Wednesday I will give a scan around the web for some interesting dog news and share it with you. Bosco tends to think he is the center of the world but we all know that is not true.
- “Duke Flinton isn’t your average detective. Sure, he’s good at solving mysteries, but his real talent lies in sniffing out the clues. With his ears perked, nostrils flared, and stubby tail wagging so hard that his feet slide on a polished floor, Duke, a silky terrier who lives in Utah, is hot on the trail of an intruder.” (The Christian Science Monitor)
- “A dog is a lifetime friend and companion — not a two-hour rental. Dogs form attachments to their families and thrive on consistency. Frequent and abrupt changes in location, routine, discipline and attention are confusing and stressful. Moving them from person to person, home to home, can induce problems such as anxiety and depression.” (The New York Times)
- “Despite the passion that surrounded the issue of dogs on Singing Beach prior to Town Meeting, nothing was changed Monday night. Manchester residents voted against changing the current bylaws, which means dogs will be permitted on the beach from Oct. 1 to May 1.” (Wicked Local Manchester)
- “AGGRESSIVE dogs being used by their owners as status symbols are behind the rising number of vicious attacks in Cambridge. This is the verdict of dog experts today (Tuesday, 08 April) as the News reveals a sharp increase in the number of people treated for dog bites at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Figures show 71 people were treated by the hospital’s A&E department in 2006-07 - more than 80 per cent up on two years earlier, when 39 people were injured.” (Cambridge News Online)
- “Some east Dallas women are working to transform stray dogs into house pets as Hollywood Heights residents say their neighborhood has become a dumping ground for strays. Last week neighbors said they watched as a man dumped two injured pit bulls out of a van.” (NBC5I.com)
