Don’t leave your dog in the car

I always joke about Bosco melting in the sun because he is made of chocolate but it is a serious topic especially when talking about the car. A lot of people take their dogs with them in the car and a lot of people leave their dogs in the car while they are doing whatever.
Have you even sat in the car in the sun with the windows closed and no A/C on? It gets very hot very fast and it is killing dogs everywhere. You would not leave your baby in the car like that, why is it any different for dogs? If you have to do it, park in the shade or leave the windows cracked and don’t be that long.
COME ON, admit it. You’re not proud of it. But you’ve done it before. I know I have, if only for a few minutes.
We did it because we thought if we were quick about it, everything would be OK. And afterward, we were secretly relieved that nothing horrible happened.
But are you really willing to take that chance again? I know I’m not.
That’s why it’s important for all pet owners, but especially those with dogs, to heed the Nova Scotia SPCA’s warning about leaving dogs in cars on sunny and / or hot days.
On a 25-degree day, the temperature inside a car can reach 31 degrees in the shade, according to the shelter’s president, Pamela Keddy.
A car parked in the sun can reach temperatures over 70 C, or almost 160 F, literally like a low-temperature oven. That’s more than 3 1/2 times normal room temperature.
That’s hot enough to melt wax.
And it’s hot enough to kill your dog.
