Live in the Halifax area? Dog jog is Sunday
By cuzzy | June 19, 2007
The 16th annual Dog Jog is this coming Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax. The Dog Jog is the SPCA’s metro shelter’s biggest single fundraiser. And this year, they’re hoping to top the $30,000 mark. Last year’s edition raised about $20,000.
Having it near the Sailor’s Memorial in Point Pleasant Park may help them over the hump. The park is a favourite place for dogs and their people, and SPCA fundraising chairwoman Terrilee Bulger hopes that at least 300 humans will show up with their doggies.
Although some areas of Point Pleasant are off-leash, Dog Jog organizers ask everybody to keep their dogs on a leash at all times for the day.
If you go to the Dog Jog on Sunday, you’ll have lots of opportunity to help out. There are prizes for the top youth fundraiser (a Nintendo Wii — sweet) and the top adult fundraiser (a weekend-in-the-city package). And everyone who raises over a certain amount gets a little package of goodies.
Shelter staff hope that each Dog Jogger can raise at least $100. All contributions over $15 will get a tax receipt.
Lietash Canine Academy will have flyball and agility demos, local veterinarian Eric Carnegy will be on hand to answer all your pet-related questions and kids can get their faces painted. Plus there will be a barbecue and lots of other cool stuff to do.
