Summer-proof your dog
By cuzzy | May 15, 2007
Today in the Chronicle Herald they gave some great tips on summer-proofing your pets. Here are some good ones for dogs.
- Take them to your friendly neighbourhood veterinarian for their annual pre-summer checkup.
- You should resume your pet’s flea treatment if you don’t do it year-round.
- Renew your municipal dog licence. If you haven’t registered your pet yet, please do. It’s not that expensive and it really does help your pet if he gets in trouble or gets lost.
- It’s also very important not to leave your dog in the car on a sunny day. Even though it may not seem hot outside, your car can heat up quickly with the sun beating down.
- Make sure they don’t spend too much time in direct sunlight. And if it’s hot, a better place for them would be inside where it’s cooler, preferably near their full, clean water bowl.
- In hot weather, make sure your pets don’t get too much exercise, unless of course their existence depends on being as tropical as possible.
Those are some pretty simple but good tips I would say. We all need a reminder that the summer has some dangers for the dogs as well.
The number one thing I have to be watchful for having a chocolate dog is that he does not melt. That would be sad haha.
Have a great day everyone.

Those are good tips for the spring, summer, for sure. I might have to copy some of them for my blog.
